EVENING DIALOGUE
BEGINS A NEW BOOK This month our
dinner and discussion group will be meeting on May 13th and May
27th at 6:00 p.m. in the Heritage Room. Due to the enthusiasm for
our last book by Thich Nhat Hanh, we are reading The Zen Teachings of
Jesus by Kenneth S. Leong. Leong looks at the saying of Jesus the
poet in the light of basic elements of Zen: "presence,
ordinariness, zest, ease, gentleness, freedom, simplicity, and
paradox." We will discuss the introduction and Chapter One on the
13th. No reservations are necessary - just bring
food to share (entree, salad or dessert). Childcare is available until
the conclusion of the session at 8:00 p.m. Need a book? They are availble on Amazon.com. LAY INSTITUTE OF FAITH EXPLORATION
Eden Seminary is offering two great
opportunities for faith development next month through the LIFE program! LIFE is a partnership with Eden
Seminary, the Illinois South Conference, and the Missouri Mid-South
Conference of the UCC. LIFE is a
series of weekend retreats offered five times per year to help participants
study scripture and explore Christian faith and church life. It also encourages participants to be
life-long learners and disciples, faithful witnesses to the gospel, and
faithful members and leaders of the church.
The program equips participants to relate scripture to faith and life. Visit www.eden.edu
to find out more about the LIFE programs! For more information about any of these
programs, contact the church office 314-872-9330.
